Frequently Asked Questions

Check out some FAQs about lithium-ion batteries.

GENERAL

Lithium-ion batteries are a relatively newer technology that offer intelligence, communication, higher energy density and longer life, while eliminating the need for service and maintenance like watering and following complicated charging processes. Lead acid batteries can be used in a wide variety of applications outside of their optimal conditions, which will severely shorten their life, while lithium-ion batteries should be optimized through proper system integration for increased performance.

A BMS (battery management system) is the brain of the battery and an integral component of all Inventus Power batteries. It helps protect the battery from operating outside of safe conditions, communicates / collects data, and optimizes battery performance.

Our batteries were designed to last more than 2,000 charge cycles depending on the model, and may last as long as the system. The average cycle life of a lithium battery is 3-5x more than a lead acid battery.

SoC (state of charge) is the battery’s level of charge (energy remaining) expressed from 0 – 100%.

DoD (depth of discharge) is the amount energy allowed to discharge relative to the overall energy in the battery.

All batteries will lose capacity as they are cycled or as they age. SoH (state of health) is the battery’s capacity compared to the initial capacity of the battery. Inventus Power’s PROformance batteries communicate battery SoH as part of the predictive maintenance features.

SAFETY

Yes, all Inventus Power lithium-ion batteries include a BMS as it is an integral part of the battery to ensure performance and safety.

A BMS (battery management system) is the brain of the battery and an integral component of all Inventus Power batteries. It helps protect the battery from operating outside of safe conditions, communicates / collects data, and optimizes battery performance. There are many battery suppliers in the market who do not have agency certifications on their batteries. These suppliers may only have safety certifications from the cell manufacturers, which is a component of the battery system. Inventus Power goes above and beyond by 1) testing and certifying our batteries against recognized global standards like UL and TUV for on/off-road applications and 2) complying with functional safety requirements to ensure potential issues are monitored, detected, and mitigated before they happen. Furthermore, we own 100% of the design and manufacturing process to ensure consistency and reliability.

Similar to UL certification for all of the household electronics, it is equally important for larger batteries to have the proper agency certifications to ensure safety..

Yes, lithium-ion batteries are very safe when properly designed, manufactured, and when used as intended.

Yes, lithium batteries should ship in accordance with UN38.3 and hazmat guidelines.
